I’m in a long sit right now—the past month has blasted by. It’s glorious to have an extended time in one bright house with a fabulous view, time to dig into a new project, ingrain a new habit, spread out my stuff. But the part that makes me nervous is that I’m beginning to forget the tidy state the owners left the place in. Don’t worry—I won’t leave the place in slings for them. I’m just thinking about how familiarity can erase even the memory of those first-day sensations.
It’s photo browsing time again, and this time I’m scrolling back to find photos from my first day in this place or that. It’s fun to relive that feeling of strangeness, sometimes with a tinge of danger, always with a sense of elation.
