It's carnival time in Corfu

and I may or may not have the flu

My friends, this one will be heavy on the picture-taking and low on the thought-thinking. My immune system has served me well in recent years, but the arse came out of her this week. I’m smothered with the colds. I got a dosed of it.

In Greek pharmacies, you can get an over-the-counter nasal swab test that checks for Covid-19, influenza, and RSV. I got negative results on all fronts. Can we get anything so efficient at home right now? The five-pack of Covid-19 tests I’ve been lugging around with me for years expired in December. Ah, immunity, you were good while you lasted.

Dripping the drops of nose assay into the two little wells on the tester plate had me thinking sketchy thoughts about that Theranos missus. How many diseases can you test for with just a few drops of snot?

I didn’t know it when I planned to be here, but as good luck would have it, my five-week stay in Corfu includes the four weeks of the Corfu Carnival.
