Some seasons of life are delightful, some are exhilarating or challenging. Occasionally, we go through a season where the best we can do is take comfort in remembering that nothing lasts forever. Events of this past month in North America have put me in that frame of mind; but I’d be callous if I didn’t acknowledge that folks around the world have at various times—probably since the beginning of time—been going through such seasons.

Oof, this one’s coming off melancholy. I promise, the rest of this post won’t be a downer. I’ve just been scrolling though old photos and remembering places where I’ve brushed up against the remnants of older empires that came to pass.
