This week, I took a peek into my journals from 2015. The previous summer, I’d left my job and my apartment in the same month. In the fall I started picking up work on a couple of freelancing websites, thinking it could bridge the gap until I found another full-time job. I’d lined up a string of housesitting gigs for friends and friends-of-friends in St. John’s, thinking to bridge the gap until I found another long-term apartment.
The freelancing became my full-time job, and I still haven’t gotten around to finding another long-term apartment.
I thought I’d share a bit of my journal—not everything I wrote about, but I don’t mind sharing the bits around how I ended up in Athens that first time.

Took it in my head during the snowstorm on Thursday to try to find a Mediterranean-ish place to spend a month or two after the housesitting ends. I even sent a message to an Airbnb host in Greece. But then he changed the price from 635 CAD to 650 EUR plus site fee, and I changed my mind.
Can I pull off a working holiday in Europe this summer? The seed is planted now.
